Getting to know
Rev. Stephen Johnson
Exploring faith through studying scripture and reflecting on life within a community of other people who are interested in knowing more about God, the traditions of Christianity and how all of that fits (or doesn't fit) with our lived experience is exciting. This, along with being in a nurturing community where all people are welcome to participate fully in the life of the church is why Stephen is in ministry.
Stephen was called to join the life of First Christian Church and began his ministry in Ponca City on August 1, 2021. Most recently, Stephen served as Interim Pastor at First Christian Church (Disciples of Christ) in Fayette, Missouri. Prior to that, Stephen served congregations in Eastern Washington, Northern Idaho, and Southern California.
Stephen received his seminary education at Claremont School of Theology, earning a Master of Divinity degree and he was ordained in the Pacific Southwest Region of the Christian Church (Disciples of Christ). While living in Oklahoma is new to him, it isn't too far from familiar ground. Stephen grew up in Monett, Missouri, which is about 200 miles east of Ponca City on Highway 60. Stephen is also interested in playing guitar, enjoys a good night of stargazing with telescopes, and hiking scenic trails (nothing too tough).
