Friendship Bikes helps address the critical transportation gap in our community by providing bicycles to individuals with urgent needs related to employment, healthcare, education, and basic daily living.

Many residents in our community lack access to a personal vehicle due to medical limitations, legal barriers, or economic hardship. As a result, individuals often walk long distances to reach employment, medical appointments, grocery stores, school, and other essential services. This lack of transportation creates barriers to economic stability, educational access, healthcare, and overall quality of life.

In addition to serving adults, Friendship Bikes assists school-aged children who need reliable transportation to attend school. Bicycles are provided to minors only with signed permission from a parent or legal guardian, ensuring safety, accountability, and responsible use. Each bicycle is provided with front and rear safety lights to support safe and legal operation.

Drawing from the Biblical directive to “love your neighbor as yourself,” we intentionally refer to those we serve as Neighbors. Again and again, we are reminded that Friendship Bikes is about more than bicycles—it is about community, dignity, and connection.

Friendship Bikes has operated since 2017 as an outreach ministry of First Christian Church in Ponca City.

If access to a bicycle would help you get to work, school, appointments or other essential services, Friendship Bikes invites you to apply.

Applications may be:

  • Requested by email click here,

  • Picked up and completed in person at First Christian Church, or

Bicycles are provided as they are available, based on current inventory and program capacity.

Recipients are responsible for the proper use and ongoing maintenance of their bicycle.

Friendship Bikes is a true community effort, made possible through the generosity of individuals, volunteers, and the ongoing support of First Christian Church

We accept new or gently used bicycles that are suitable for everyday transportation.

Donated bikes should be:

  • Road-ready and in good working condition, or

  • In need of very minor repairs only, such as:

    • Replacing a tire or tube

    • Replacing worn or missing handlebar grips

    • Other small, safety-related fixes

To best serve our neighbors, we are not able to accept bicycles that require extensive repairs or have significant damage.

New bicycles may also be purchased online and shipped directly to the church.

Friendship Bikes is a community-wide effort and is only possible because of the generosity and commitment of our amazing volunteers.

Volunteers help where they are able, based on their individual skills and availability, including:

  • Assembling new bicycles from boxed or partially assembled shipments

  • Very minor repairs and safety checks

  • Installing front and rear safety light kits

  • Assisting during bicycle distribution

Volunteers are shown what is needed and help where they can, based on their abilities. Whether you can help regularly or just an hour or two a month, your time can make a meaningful difference.
